Thanks for sharing Ken! There's a lot of people out there with pet peeves about some IM business practices - a lot around the price marking down. Nothing like seeing a product claim it's *worth* $x,xxx amount, but today you can get it for just $xx

And yes, I've seen those fake call center ones before. Took a while for me to realise they were actually fake too.

I share your thoughts on that pet peeve. My workaround is to mute the sound, open a new tab, and search the forums for info on that particular offer. By the time I get back, it's finished and I can see the price, but usually know by then if I want to look into it further. I would like to share my pet peeve. I totally get the standard procedure for asking the person if they really want to leave the page or stay when they go to close the tab/window (as long as it's only once), BUT, what I find annoying is the fake chat window that often pops up with a picture of someone with a headset on (why a headset, I don't know--this is the internet, not a call center), and they say something like, "Hi, this is Beth, and I'm authorized to discount the price of this product from $47 to $27 if you act now." I feel bad for those people who trusted the original pitch and paid full price. It teaches us as potential customers to NOT trust the original pitch and close the page just in case we can get a better price. And a related pet peeve is telling me the price was originally $1997 and some people even paid $5000 for this info (yeah, right). Now it's $197, but wait, I'm feeling generous today and for you, only $47. And if you try to close this page, I might even offer you a lower price... OK, I feel better now. Thanks for letting me share my pet peeve(s).

I agree. I'll just close the page as soon as it loads. What gets me is they think thier time is more valuable than mine. Why would I spend 5 to 20 min. watching something that in all probablity I won't be interested in, let alone pay for. My time is valuable.

Me too! People like you are the coolest in my opinion - people who care enough to say something about the BS that goes on in IM in a constructive way and aren't sales-y types. I can relate to what you say about the company you keep. I have great friends who I've known for years and I feel strongly about my subscribers too.

I'm often kind of shocked by how rude people can be online (and off). I can never get used to it, even though I know it exists. For the most part people I deal with are really nice and friendly, but there is some nasty stuff that goes on, so I agree with what you say about what the future might hold.

I ran a forum for a while too. I'm still one of the moderators, so I guess I should say that I *still* run it, but I'm not very active because I've moved on to other things. Other people post a lot and keep it going and find value in it, which is nice. So I can relate to what you say about how you've done the same thing.

It means a lot to me when someone tells me that something I posted on a blog or in a forum helped them in some way. Just the other day someone wrote to me to say thank you for posts I wrote 2 1/2 years ago! Wow. That is so nice. I didn't expect it at all.

Hi Lillea,

SO glad you found my site! After reading your profile you're exactly the type of person I'm trying to attract, I just need to keep getting the word out. The more time I spend at the Warrior Forums, the more I'm really starting to dislike the way the "non-cool" members are treated. Which is a shame as there are also some absolutely fantastic people there who geniunely want to help people.

I'm very passionate about looking after my member and the company I keep - not just on forums, but in general. Although I do still keep in contact with quite a few people from my main forum that I left almost a year ago now.

There's so many things different about the world today, especially with regards to how we treat others. Makes you worry what the future holds...
